Mach Rider 2: Sam Barker

It's concept art of Sam Barker, an original character for the Mach Rider "2" idea.

Sam is an eccentric young inventor whom Miyu knows from her years in engineering school. He loves technology and has exceptional talent in designing and building all types of machines, big and small. He isn't affiliated with the Cornerian army (thus explaining his casual wear), but is called in by the Mach Rider team every once in a while to resolve some issues that require his inventive prowess.

Sam is responsible for creating Miyu's "Mach Glider" suit, which uses G-Diffuser boots that act almost like skates. This compact technology is based on his hoverboard design, which he holds here; what you are seeing is the underside of the board, whereas the top is more attractive. He's also helped Tora out of situations where his robotic limbs faced some serious problems. What's more, the extra bikes available in the "Classic" modes were of his design, although the building process required the assistance from Tom Gezeppi, his best friend and old lab partner (also from the engineering school).

Most folks figure Sam to be on the odd side, and because of which they tend not to take him seriously. What with the way he can sometimes act during situations of a serious nature, even Tora and Miyu tend to question his sanity. While he isn't afraid to bust out a small dance move or flashy pose every now and then, he's self-conscious enough to wear sunglasses to hide his two different-colored eyes.

Fay admires Sam's uniqueness and his incredible inventive talent...she may even have a crush on him! But she's been very quiet about these feelings... ;3
