Lv. UP - Malcolm

An updated pencil drawing of Malcolm Abrams, a character made for the world of "Lv. UP!" After a subpar first attempt, this picture was made to better match the pictures of Mag and Diesel.

Young Malcolm only recently enrolled in the same school as Nate and Izzy; he moved into the area during the summer with his mother and grandfather. Seeing as his previous school was solely focused on academics, Malcolm could only learn the traits of magic through free study, as well as through his family's tutoring. He comes from a long line of mages, all specializing in particular areas of sorcery. His mother specilizes in healing, and his grandfather is an expert at offensive magic. His traveling father, rarely seen outside of pictures in his letters, travels the world to expand his knowledge of advanced utilitarian magic.

Rather than using a wand like most mages, Malcolm wears a strange coat and hat, given to him by his wayfaring father as a birthday gift four years ago. The coat wields a strange magic force not unlike most wands, and its power seems virtually limitless. However, the coat was discovered to hold a strange curse, which on rare occasions causes it to take on its own will, controlling Malcolm in the process. Its nature is evil and chaotic, and almost seems capable of wreaking havoc on its own power. But Malcolm has been trying to suppress this curse, and continues to research how to rid the coat of the curse's control.

His research is primarily from a special book of advanced magic spells, also given to him on his birthday, but by his mother. Along with the study of removing curses, the book details other types of spells that he slowly tries to perfect. Malcolm's list of skills vary in terms of his skill level; he can summon lightning, fire, and ice expertly, can levitate some objects up to a certain weight and/or size, and has only begun to utilize teleportation and portal travel. He aims to use the coat's power and the book's wisdom to become the greatest mage of not just his generation, but of all time.

Malcolm is a confident but reserved individual. Used to being an outcast in a crowd, he prefers to be alone, and will rather tackle a problem by himself. If he can help it, he will refuse the help of others unless the situation really needs it. He solves his problems efficiently and tactfully, and believes that the "shot in the dark" method of confronting problems is not only dangerous but foolish. He hesitates to respond to a situation in that way even if it's the only available option.

Malcolm believes that everyone and everything should work and interact in a particular way, and anything which does not is "crude and incompetent." That said, he typically behaves in a proper manner, never trying to start trouble unless an argument needs to be made. He refers to his superiors with respect, although he doesn't engage in much conversation with fellow classmates. But Malcolm isn't afraid to fight when someone wants to start trouble, and will use as much force as necessary to win.

Of note: Malcolm normally attacks using his magic. Under the influence of his cursed coat, however, he is as likely to attack with physical attacks as he is with sinister spells. And as one can imagine, Malcolm is not conscious during his possession, and as a result doesn't realize what happened during the coat's control until after the fact.
