A holiday gift. This goes to Joseph Collins, and it is a drawing of his character Joseph Lithius.
Joseph Collins is a fan of my "Utopian Legend" characters. From what he's told me he took a great liking to the female cast at first, then after looking more into the rest began to enjoy the story's concept and depth itself. I'm always proud to hear that I have a fan, and he had even been looking into my "MalaSprites," my sprite versions of my characters. He is a sprite artist and had been making sprite comics for a good while. He is also a musician, making versions of video game tunes at his site. Oh! And he is a user in the world of Second Life, sometimes showing off some customized threads based upon my own Terry Gato.
The drawn version of his character is based upon his appearance in Second Life, but stylized as though he were a character in "The Utopian Legend." Remembering a past avatar he used in his galleries, I recalled it looking very similar to Sketch Tucker, and if my memory is correct he affirmed that it was the basis. So I went with that notion and styled his appearance rather similar to Sketch's. I hadn't been sure I got the right look until I added the final detail - the glasses - and then everything came together in the right place. I hadn't added his fisherman hat because it wasn't a fit for how I visualize his character; I think he looks better showing off the three bangs on his head. And hey, at least he doesn't look like Tails in this picture. :3
On another note, I decided to make him again as a sprite wearing his "Bonus Time" apparel, and he appears in the poster on the right. Naturally, I based the appearance directly off of Sketch... a "sprite edit," if you will. Naturally the other sprite-styled Utopian Legend characters are staring at him in inquiry and confusion. I felt it was a good added touch since he decided to make a little sprite comic featuring Kazuya. And, of course, the customary special icon has to be applied; I based the icon on the logo he drew in "Snow Fun," and I think the appearance is a perfect fit.
I hope he likes my rendition of his character, and that he pardons any inaccuracies or details that I may have overlooked.
Malamite? I'm going to hug you now. Try not to take this gesture personally, but this is the most awesome thing anyone outside of my family has given me in quite a while! *hugs on!* Thank you! I really, really love it!
Inaccuracies? Overlooked details? I really don't see any of the above! In fact, I'd say this is quite possibly the FINEST picture of Joseph I've ever seen! Though I might be just a smidge biased considering you're my favorite artist... X3 But he certainly does look great in your style! And I do agree with you on the fisherman hat. Drawn or sprited, he always looks better without any sort of hat (except for maybe his newsboy cap, which was shown in some of my comics back when Bonus Time Comics was up on the web). But in second Life, the hat generally helps because of the fact the avatar's head is lierally just a big sphere with stuff sticking out of it. XD Though I have to admit, I AM starting to get fond of "hatless Joe" there... Especially since I'd updated my avatar a little. And yeah, my personal icon (which I've recently switched back to to help illistrate your point) was based on a mix of the Tokaru emblem and Professor Tomoe from Sailor Moon S, as I've mentioned. Joseph himself? Not really based on anything in particular... Though, as is the obvious thing, I HAVE gotten a lot of comments that he looks like Tails... And I'll admit, bits and pieces of him WERE edited from Tails himself, so... XD
Oh, and the Joseph sprite edit of Sketch isn't too bad, either, considering it was a relatively quick edit! X3 Tossing sprite-Joseph in "Bonus Time" apparel was a good move. That's definitely the more "classic" look of the two. X3 And you even tossed in my usual font (Arial) in that text bubble! (Actually, "Arial ROUNDED" is my usual font, but Windows Vista doesn't have that for some reason. So of course, "Arial" is my secondary personal font. XD)
Man, the only thing that could make this picture better would be a sprig of mistleloe and maybe Iris or Terry (more likely Iris) nearby upholding the traditional action mistletoe invokes... X3 Yeah, sorry, I couldn't resist. Heh heh.
The details I had concern about were the longer bangs and the different number of digits on the hands and feet. But the biggest one was the coloration. Rather than make the character with black "gloves" and "socks," I made them in dark brown. The black was not going well with the clothes and I wanted to make them a little more distinguishable.
And yeah, the sprite was slightly rushed, but I wanted to make it look almost hacked. The speech bubbles were of course intended to look in your style, and I'm glad they were at least very close. :3
Ya know, I honestly hadn't noticed the coloration changes until you pointed them out to me. I think I may have to keep it that way... It looks pretty good. o_o
Also, I tend to draw my characters with five fingers and however-many "toes", so don't worry about the mis-matched digit count. That's an intentional inconsistancy on my part, not to mention Second Life generally won't let you hide fingers... XD Though I suppose I could've crafted a four-finger "glove" to put over the hands... But...nah. Then they'd be huge.
All and all, I VERY enjoy the picture, Malamite. Thank you!

So yes! Hope you enjoy that pic.
